me and my cousin headed off to exmouth friday night to see what was wanting to play. offering lug, live peeler, squid and mackerel as bait. things on the main beach were very quiet so we moved round to the rocks in front of the new lifeboat station thats being built. firstly we spotted several mullet up to 8-10lb feeding in close but we were not equipped to fish for them (i'll be back). anyway things continued to be very quiet with just one school bass 6" to live peeler. we then packed up and decided to move round to budleigh.
things stayed much the same here with very little happening we only managed 1 doggie so called it quits at about 02.30

i headed off to south devon today in search of my first ever mullet. i fished this mark fri night and spotted several mullet easily in the 8-10lb range and just couldnt resist any longer!
When i arrived the fish were there (bonus)! i started out by throwing in free lumps of bread until they were taking confidently and competing for the offerings. i used a size 8 circle hook with a bread paste on 6lb line cast upstream to let it sink towards them and then BANG! never before have i had a fish this size fight so well. for about 5 minutes i was playing tug o war with this fish, amazing fight and i can see the attraction in mullet fishing!
the mullet weighed in at 3lb 4oz no monster by any means but was well chuffed to catch it. after weighing the fish swam strongly away to fight another day
